About the magazine
An independent look at valley memory, industry, and landscape
Mémoire de l’Auvézère is an independent editorial magazine dedicated to the Périgord valleys, where forges, paper mills, watermills, and rivers shaped working life for generations.
Our method
Documented history, read with care
We work from material culture, physical archives, and direct observation of the landscape rather than from folklore. Each article distinguishes what is documented from what remains uncertain, and makes clear which sources support each statement.
The magazine is editorially independent. It is not an official museum, association, or local-government publication, and it does not speak on behalf of any institution. Readers are invited to verify, question, and explore the valley for themselves.
Tools and stone
Tangible traces of the valley
Our attention rests on the tools, the stone mills, and the river geology that gave each site its character. A millstone, a forge hammer, or a riverbank cut reveals how work was organised and how the water was harnessed.
Focused archival imagery and close observation let these details speak for the craft they once served, without staging or reconstruction.
